October Meeting: Be Kind: Mental Health Matters, presented by Northern Virginia NAMI

WFCWC will have their next meeting on Monday, October 21 at 7:00 p.m. National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Northern Virginia’s executive director, Rebecca Kiessling, will join us to talk about its mission to support, educate, and advocate for people living with mental health concerns, their families and loved ones, and our community. Rebecca will highlight why this work is so important in Northern Virginia, how NAMI programs help address these problems, and some warning signs and self-care tips you can use right away. She will also share how the community can support NAMI Northern Virginia’s work!
 
Rebecca Kiessling is the Executive Director of the National Alliance of Mental Illness (NAMI) Northern Virginia, serving the Counties of Arlington, Fairfax, Loudoun, and the cities of Alexandria, Fairfax, and Falls Church. Rebecca is passionate about creating stigma-free communities, advocating for real change, and breaking down barriers to mental health resources that can improve the lives of people, families, and communities affected by mental illness. Rebecca has worked extensively with nonprofits for almost 20 years. She has testified before Congress, received national awards for strategic communications, and built nationwide grassroots coalitions for advocacy.  A long-time resident of Northern Virginia and mom of three girls, Rebecca was recently awarded the 2024 Live Healthy Fairfax Award for Behavioral Health. She has degrees from the George Washington University and from Georgetown University, as well as a certificate in Leadership and Management from Harvard Business School. She also is a certified peer recovery specialist.

WFCWC usually meets at 7:00 p.m. on the third Monday of the month, September through May, at the Cale Community Center, 4615 Stringfellow Road. Guests are always welcome to attend our meeting programs and social events. If you wish to attend our September program, please RSVP to Mary Jane Hasselkus at (703) 378-4250.

Who can join WFCWC?

         If you are a woman 18 years old or  older and a resident of western Fairfax County or the surrounding area, we invite  you to join us. We require that you attend two meetings, or one meeting and  one social event, before submitting your membership application and dues. 
        If you are looking for connections to  your community, interested in making new friends and ready to have fun, and you would like us to contact you with more information, please provide your contact information below. We meet at 7 p.m. on the third Monday of the month at the Cale Community Center in Greenbriar, 4615 Stringfellow Road, Chantilly, from September  through May.
