April Program:   Notable First Ladies

The GFWC Western Fairfax County Woman’s Club will meet on Monday, April 17 at 7 p.m. at the Cale Community Center in Greenbriar. The topic will be "Notable First Ladies" Our speaker, Mary Buckingham Lipsey, grew up in Fairfax County, Virginia. She received a BA in History and Sociology from Mary Washington College and a Masters in Middle School Education from Virginia Tech. In June 2003, Mary retired after teaching seventh grade American History for almost thirty years at Lake Braddock Secondary. She enjoyed being a docent at the Smithsonian American History Museum and the National Archives for many years. She served on the Fairfax County History Commission for 16 years and now remains as an advisor to the commission. During retirement, her love of history and research has led her to write several books.
Mary’s previous books include:
A Christmas Flight: Aviation Pioneer, Dr. William Christmas
  Aviation: From Curiosity to Reality
  Almost Forgotten Women: Yesterday’s Headliners
  The ABCs of Flying
Mary will have several of her books for sale at the meeting. They are $20 (saales tax included) and she only accepts cash or checks. All are welcome to attend the meeting. We look forward to seeing you.
